Most 16 year olds get a car for their birthdays, but not Lief. Lief gets to begin his journey to overthrow the evil Shadow Lord, who has taken over the land of Deltora. Lief must collect all seven precious stones of Deltora and unite them with "Deltora's Belt" to defeat the Shadow Lord and bring back the era of peace Deltora once had.
